Bandera, Texas

Known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World?”

Located 40 minutes west of San Antonio, on Highway 16. It is a charming western town in the scenic hill country. A legacy dating to its days as a staging area for what is today known as the Great Western Cattle Trail from the last cattle drives from the 1800’s.

It’s a great way to spend the day for a walk, shopping, and some drinking at the local bars around town the museum has an outdoor exhibit and walking trail that includes 19 life-size dinosaurs and Ice Age animals. This makes for fun and all ages walking no matter which direction one starts check out these replicas here’s a link Home | Bandera Museum and Frontier Times Museum. Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of the frontier days, where legends were born and history was made. They established the TEXAS HEROES HALL OF HONOR to recognize the remarkable individuals who’ve helped keep the pioneer spirit alive.

There’s even a nature trail to go for hike in the Hill Country State Natural Area where you can connect with natural, a lovely trail you can take for exploring or exercise. You can also swim, float down, or even Picnic down alongside the Medina River which is in Bandera City Park. Check out the oldest store located in the small-town The Bandera General Store where all the locals and tourists go to get an ice cream sundae. Fun fact the general store was built in 1907 which as of this year 2025 it makes the store 118 years old.

Make sure to arrive with a hearty appetite, as Bandera boasts a variety of fantastic dining options. My personal favorite is Brick’s River Café, where you can savor the best Southern sweet tea served in charming Mason jars—there’s something special about sipping tea from a jar that makes it feel like a true treat! Their mouthwatering chicken-fried chicken, generously smothered in rich white cream gravy, is divine. Another popular spot is OST, known for its delectable salad offerings before dinner, perfect for starting your meal on a healthy note. Come out and enjoy a lively mid-week evening at 11th Street! Savor the experience of bringing your own steak, which you can grill to perfection on our spacious, Texas-sized BBQ pits. As the aroma of your sizzling steak fills the air, immerse yourself in the sounds of live music that will get you dancing the night away. It’s the perfect way to unwind, indulge in delicious food, and create unforgettable memories with friends. Don’t miss out on the fun!
